Traditional Art .....Wtf is that?? Haha.

So, a few days ago, I had a brief run in with a "Digital Art is Not Art" type of person (on another art site) and it certainly got me interested (and wondering).

It's been nearly 7 years since I made a piece of finished art on paper with pens and pencils before I took up digital, and I wanted to see how I would do with it now. I figured it's like riding a bike.

And I'm not kidding, I actually had trouble drawing/shading lines and just being able to USE the pencil. I'm so used to "drawing" with a stylus and looking at my monitor that I couldn't accurately get the pencil in the right spot. It took a couple of hours into the piece (and a few warm-up scribbles) to get my hand back into it (Kinda like drawing with your opposite hand, but with your good hand).

Really, really weird :O

So here we are. Doing Traditional Art.

I'm also sorry that I couldn't think of anyone else to draw. It's the only face I know how to draw these days  It was either him or Dr House.

A4
HB, 2H, 4B and 6B were the only pencils I could find.
And an eraser.

Wow this is still really incredible, I wouldn't be able to tell you're not used to traditional art by looking at this. You're really amazing!

Hmmmmmyeah... Let's sort this out one at a time. The equation is simple. First you needn't worry if you procrastinate, it's quite normal. By the way... if you think of it, procrastinating is an awful waste of energy while you need to just be lazy. In the meantime you've realized you can't do both at the same time, haven't you? Both are incompatible and mutually exclusive.

So next is to persuade yourself you actually *want* to be lazy, which should stop you from procrastinating — at least while you're working at it since that'll distract you from procrastinating, oh, unless you can do more than one thing at a time but let's just suppose you don't, will we, it'll be easier for the demonstration.

That *will* take quite a bit of time. So finally being used to spend all your time trying to convince yourself you want to be lazy, you'll end up doing just that, which is in the end quite the same as not doing much else, right? And by the way you'll realize that you are just lazy and don't care about the rest. Cured.

Quod erat demonstrandum.

Am I making sense?

I feel terrible if I have a lazy day and get nothing done, but at the same time, I am a horrible procrastinator, so I'm kinda screwed there!

Bwahahaha! Love that! [I wouldn't say it's been a long time I'm being unproductive but I don't feel any remorse at all since... oh, a long ago ;) .]

I tell you what though, it was a really nice change :D

I sometimes get pains in my back or legs from being on the computer for hours at a time (I swear it feels like a few minutes on some nights haha) so it was great to take my work out of the office and curl up on the sofa and watch TV with the sketchbook in my lap and my lunch beside me and not feel guilty about being unproductive

I guess I should thank him for inspiring me!

You can argue with them all day, and they still won't budge . But if you go by their logic (the computer does the work for you) you can just as easily say "The 6B pencil does the work for YOU" which usually leaves them a little gobsmacked

Have they even TRIED using a mouse + MS Paint? It's almost impossible to create anything without special skill (and I HAVE seen some great MSPaint-work before).

It's not cheating... they're just jealous of your skill!

And I love detail too, although I primarily use pen :P

Funny to consider that the comment he made had just the opposite effect: instead of being deeply affected you took it as a challenge in the end, demonstrating how wrong such idiots are.

«What doesn't kill me makes me stronger...»

Some people consider Digital to be Cheating, Easy or that the computer does all the work for you and it has no imagination/soul/whatever that makes art "Art"<-- Whatever that is

But thank you! I'm a sucker for detail, and it really is quite tricky with a pencil :D

What he said didn't phase me (I didn't even understand his language to begin with :giggle:) because I see it all the time- especially on websites that support Digital Art yet appeal more to Traditional Artists (*cough [link] *cough*).
I guess you can say he inspired me to look back to my roots as an artist :XD:
