Quaritch Painting Process by Sheridan-J Quaritch Painting Process by Sheridan-J
I remembered to save some WIPS as I went this time! :)

Same process: Lines > Flat colors/tones > Texture > Detail!

Photoshop CS5, lots of texture/grunge brushes.

well, I can do step 1 and 2, although it will take my entire day
If I try really hard and study for a few months, I can probably do step 3

If I study really hard for 10 years, I can probably even pull off step 4

that means, by my calculations,

I will be an awesommer artist than you in approximatly 34253658556768647575746549663756374666475666 eons

Thanks a lot! I'm happy you noticed that about my work :D
I like to make my portraits a bit more unique- especially if I have seen other artists use the same reference picture :)

(Don't worry, your english is great :D)

Great result!

Do you use dodge and burn tools or do you just paint?

(i ask because painter's dodge and burn tools suck)

Absolutely. I use it mostly for finishing touches though, to darken areas such as around the eyes, wrinkles, and to get those highlights (the white along the side of his face) to really stand out :)

Did you see that ad for Terra Nova during the superbowl last night? There was one character who was clearly ripped off this dude. When he said "Welcome to Terra Nova," you could tell there were several takes before that where he accidentally said "Pandora."

I never thought to do a grid reference. That's given me a great idea! thank you
Does it make it easier?
Reply
:iconsheridan-j:
Sheridan-J Featured By Owner Jan 28, 2011  Professional Digital Artist
Absolutely. And quicker! :D
I used to spend about 1-2 hours slaving over my initial sketch/lineart to get it as perfect as possible.
With the grid, I get the exact same result in about 10-20 minutes :XD:

does it also help you work in sections? i struggle with composition of my pieces and end up stuffing it because i did a crease in the wrong place.

Sorry to bombard you with questions but also how do you create your skin texture?
